{"id":1464,"date":"2012-09-03T20:09:27","date_gmt":"2012-09-03T20:09:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/proqc.com\/blog\/?p=536"},"modified":"2023-09-08T10:29:34","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T10:29:34","slug":"celebrating-worker-contributions-realizing-the-benefits-of-social-audits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/proqc.com\/blog\/celebrating-worker-contributions-realizing-the-benefits-of-social-audits\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating worker contributions &#038; realizing the benefits of social audits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first Monday in September is observed as Labor Day in the United States, which is a national holiday celebrating the contributions of workers. \u00a0Similar holidays are observed <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labour_Day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow noindex\">throughout the world<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Samsung announced\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/261836\/samsung_finds_bad_management_at_supplier_in_china_launches_more_audits.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow noindex\">issues <\/a>at several factories in China, indicating age disparities and other health and safety concerns. \u00a0They are committing to an evaluation of 144 suppliers before the end of the year, using documentation as a way to verify\u00a0conformance\u00a0to local regulations. \u00a0Apple and many other multinationals are facing similar issues and are working with NGOs, industry organizations and other 3rd parties such as <a href=\"https:\/\/proqc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pro QC <\/a>to improve supplier conditions and stakeholder confidence.<\/p>\n<p>We have written several articles relating to on-site and verified social audits and are finding the request for such services are steadily increasing throughout the world. \u00a0Organizations of all sizes and throughout industries are realizing the benefits of proactive supplier management in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>Benefits of ensuring worker&#8217;s rights through social audits include:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2><strong>Human Resources \u2013 Recruitment &amp; Retention Benefits\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Higher employee morale leads to greater rates of retention, which cuts the costs of recruiting and training new staff. In addition, a growing trend in recruitment appears to be concern regarding a company\u2019s corporate social responsibility activities.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Increased Product Quality &amp; Safety<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Reducing defects and accidents enhances product quality. A less fatigued and adult workforce is less likely to cause accidents or defects on the production line.
