Quality Q&A : What are EICC audits and who needs them?
Written by: Jean Champlain, Supplier Development Manager
The EICC (Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition) is a coalition of the world’s leading electronics companies working together to improve efficiency and social, ethical, and environmental responsibility in the global supply chain.
Members of the EICC include electronic manufacturers, software firms, ICT firms, and manufacturing service providers, including contracted labor that design, market, manufacture and/or provide electronic goods or other materials or services to ICT firms.
Members of the EICC have created a standard Code-of-Conduct that covers ethics, environmental conditions, labor standards, and worker health and safety. This standard is now being widely adopted by industries out of the field of ICT.
Many electronics companies or supporting suppliers partnering with a member of EICC are required not only to adopt the EICC Code of Conduct, but also to invest in its implementation. For more detail, visit the website at www.eicc.info where you can download a copy of the standard in various languages. Pro QC has developed and applied a specific checklist for this as well. Auditors are using the checklist on-site, which incorporates many of the elements of ISO 26000.
Pro QC has experienced an increase in EICC service requests in recent months. Currently, we have several trained auditors and are looking forward to developing additional resources in the coming months.
